FAQ
What types of electric vehicles can I finance?
We can help finance fully electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids, whether new or used, and whether you're buying from a dealer or privately. If it's within the lender's guidelines, there's a good chance we can help. All lending is subject to eligibility, lender criteria, and approval.
How much can I borrow for an electric vehicle loan?
Loan amounts typically range from $3,000 to $250,000 or more, depending on your financial profile and the lender's criteria. The value of the EV, your income, and your credit history all play a part in how much you can borrow. Subject to lender criteria and approval.
What loan terms are available for electric vehicle loans?
Loan terms generally range from one to five years. A shorter term means higher repayments but less interest paid overall, while a longer term lowers your regular payments but may cost more in total interest. We'll help you find the right balance for your budget. Subject to lender criteria and approval.
Are interest rates different for electric vehicle loans?
Not necessarily - electric vehicle loans are assessed much like standard vehicle loans. Your rate is personalised, based on things like your credit history, income, and the loan details. You can see the current rate range in the Loan Information section below, and use the calculator to get a feel for repayments (a guide only until we assess your application).
What fees are involved in an electric vehicle loan?
Electric vehicle loans usually have an establishment fee and an introducer fee. Some lenders also charge a PPSR fee or ongoing account fees. We'll spell out every fee before you go ahead, so there are no surprises. Full fee details, including a worked example, are in the Loan Information section below and in your loan contract.
Do I need a deposit for an electric vehicle loan?
Not necessarily - many lenders will finance up to 100% of the vehicle's value, so no-deposit lending can be an option. Putting down a deposit isn't required, but it can strengthen your application, reduce your loan amount, and may help you get a lower interest rate. Subject to eligibility and lender criteria.
Is an electric vehicle loan secured against the vehicle?
Usually, yes. Most EV loans are secured against the vehicle you're buying, which can help you get a better rate. Some lenders offer unsecured options too. Which one suits you comes down to your situation - we'll talk you through it.
Can I get an electric vehicle loan with bad credit?
We work with lenders who look at the full picture, not just your credit score. If you have a steady income and can comfortably afford the repayments, there may be options available. Rates may be higher for lower credit profiles, and it's never guaranteed, but getting started and keeping up with repayments can also help rebuild your credit over time. All lending is subject to eligibility, lender criteria, and approval.
Can I get an electric vehicle loan if I'm self-employed?
Yes - being self-employed doesn't rule you out. Lenders will usually want to see proof of income, like bank statements or financial records, to understand what you can comfortably repay. We'll let you know what's needed.
How does applying for an electric vehicle loan work, and how long does it take?
It's designed to be straightforward. You apply online and provide a few documents, then we assess your situation and work to match you with a suitable lender from our panel. Timeframes vary with the lender and how complex your application is, but with everything in, some approvals come through the same day. Once you're approved and signed, funds are often available the same or next day. Approval is subject to meeting lending criteria, and an affordability test applies.
Will applying for an electric vehicle loan affect my credit score?
When you start an application, we run a soft credit check to size up your options - and a soft check doesn't affect your credit score. It's only if you go ahead with a lender, and they run a full credit check, that it's recorded on your credit file and may affect your score. Applying with several providers can mean several checks.
Can I pay off my electric vehicle loan early?
Yes, in most cases you can make early or lump-sum repayments, which can reduce the total interest you pay. Some lenders charge an early repayment fee, so it's worth checking your loan contract before you go ahead.
What happens if I can't make a repayment?
Get in touch with your lender as soon as you can - the earlier the better. Missing a repayment may mean fees and could affect your credit score, so keeping the lines open is the most important thing. Lenders can often work something out if they know early.
